Color Washing Techniques
Thinking of repainting a space in your home? Are you wanting this room to really standout and be special? Are you looking to make a bold, luxurious statement? Look no further, we have the secrets, tips, and tricks to perfecting a space with color washing.
Colorwashing can seem like an overwhelming task, but you can achieve this statement look without much fuss. #1 Don’t stress out over color! You can colorwash a room with neutral or bold colors—the overall effect is achieved through the finish (although you can achieve and even more dramatic effect by using a bold color with these finish tips). #2 Use a matte paint on your walls and ceilings. By using matte instead of satin or eggshell, it will elevate the pigment, richness, and overall look of the paint. We suggest using Benjamin Moore Regal Select Interior Matte paint. #3 As for the trim, to be able to separate walls from ceiling while using all the same color of paint, we recommend using a satin finish trim with low luster. Our favorite is Benjamin Moore Satin Impervo Low Luster Enamel. #4 Feel free to break the rules. Use a darker color on the doors to add some contrast. Go a shade or two darker on the ceiling or trim. Just stay in the color “family” and take our “finish” advice.
We hope that these tips will help you on your color washing journey, and we feel confident that the outcome will be better than you could have ever imagined! Follow the link below to see examples from a few of our projects.
